Recently, IPSOS surveyed 6,000 consumers about their preferences for wine and spirits stoppers. The survey found that most consumers prefer aluminum screw caps.
IPSOS is the third largest market research company in the world. The survey was commissioned by European manufacturers and suppliers of aluminium screw caps. They are all members of the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA). The survey covers the US and five major European markets (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK).
More than one-third of consumers will choose wines packaged in aluminum screw caps. A quarter of consumers say the type of wine stopper does not affect their wine purchases. Younger consumers, especially women, gravitate towards aluminum screw caps.
Consumers also choose to seal unfinished wines with aluminum screw caps. The wines that were re-corked were chosen, and investigators reported that they all later poured the wines because of contamination or poor quality.
According to the European Aluminium Foil Association, people are not aware of the convenience brought by aluminium screw caps when the market penetration of aluminium screw caps is relatively low.
Although only 30% of consumers currently believe that aluminum screw caps are fully recyclable, this has also encouraged the industry to continue to promote this great advantage of aluminum screw caps. In Europe, more than 40% of aluminium screw caps are now recyclable.
