Changes in the Russian wine market

Since the end of last year, the trend of organic and non-alcoholic wines has become strikingly noticeable among all manufacturers.

Alternative packaging methods are being developed, such as canned wine, as the younger generation is accustomed to consuming beverages in this form. Standard bottles can still be used if preferred. Aluminum and even paper wine bottles are emerging.

There is a shift in consumption toward white, rosé, and light red wines, while the demand for robust tannic varieties is declining.

Demand for sparkling wine in Russia is growing strongly. Sparkling wine is no longer seen as just a festive attribute; in summer, it becomes a natural choice. Moreover, young people enjoy cocktails based on sparkling wine.

Overall, domestic demand can be considered stable: Russians enjoy rewarding themselves with a glass of wine and relaxing with loved ones.

Sales of wine beverages, vermouth, and fruit wines are declining. However, there is a positive dynamic for still wines and sparkling wines.

For domestic consumers, the most important factor is price. The increase in excise taxes and tariffs has made imported varieties very expensive. This opens the market to wines from India, Brazil, Turkey, and even China, while also providing opportunities for local producers. Nowadays, almost every retail chain collaborates with them.

Recently, many specialized wine markets have opened. Almost every large winery is striving to create its own sales points and then expand this business. The shelves for local wines have become a testing ground.
